Before Pocket Informant 8 I had to have tons of categories to get the Getting Things Done (GTD) system working, and that confused me to no end, which is probably the reason that I went away from it and tried to find other solutions.

With the inclusion of multiple filters and “my views” there is no more reason to do so, I can make Pocket Informant (PI) behave any way I want to.

So here is my system!

Well before I even finished I figured out another category to add to the Pocket Informant systems for Getting Things Done (GTD).

Since I am doing the blogging here I figured I need a separate category that will actually keep me on the process to blog about certain things. Why not use “@Computer - Internet” you may ask? Simple, I keep those for higher priority tasks that need to be done, and after all while I like doing this, it is not very time sensitive so I can let it go for a bit and get some other tasks get done first.

So the new task for the day is: @Computer - Blog

And then there are other tasks, the other tasks are as follows:

@Reference - Things you want to put away for reference only.

@Someday - This is for the future, when you have time to do it it is almost like Inactive accept it even takes lower priority.

So the first thing in making the “Getting Things Done” system working is getting some categories in place. On Pocket Informant I create a category group called what else? “GTD”, and then I go to town with the categories.

I create the categories with the @ symbol in front because they are easier to identify as getting things done, and this is also the way GTD recommends.

So to start with here are some of the categories:

Ok so why do I want to use Pocket Informant for my Getting Things Done trusted system.

Its simple! In my job I find myself traveling a lot to customers, shows, etc where I am either in a car or on a plane all the time. I have got myself a Microsoft Mobile Phone on the Sprint System and have unlimited internet access so I get most of my E-Mail through there as well. So after using other systems for a while I have to find a way to manage my tasks in a getting things done system easily.

The new pocket informant has lots of additions so I decided to actually use it to see if I can create a trusted system. With all the features that the software has it should be simple but it will take a lot of trial and error. I will document every step of the way on this blog, and when it is stable will come up with a system that I will put up as a separate web page.

Thinging Rock the GTD Software

Well I have to talk about a program that I have been looking at and I have to say that it is probably the best Getting Things Done software around. For people that mostly work in the office, it is a great system that can probably answer all the tasks possible.

The software is a java applet that can run on a Macintosh, Windows and Linux platform just fine. To transfer the information all you need to do is take the file that contains the information on to a key or a floppy and transfer it among computers. It can even be sent through E-mail.

Getting things done is a system by David Allen (Wikipedia). It is a simple system that just focuses on getting all the tasks down on paper, or some other trusted system and then works at accomplishing them.

I have been using it for about two years, and while I may not be the most organized person when coming to work I have not forgotten an event or an E-Mail. Now when it comes to home, I am not so diligent and hence is why my wife keeps reminding me of things.
