Bookmark for Firefox (Mozilla Weave)
May 4, 2008 12:18 am Software, Software, SoftwareHaving switched to the new Ubuntu I find myself without a bookmark synchronizer. I used to use Google Sync (http://www.google.com/tools/firefox/browsersync/) but since it no longer works with the 3.0 browser and I do not have time to wait. I am in search for a new browser plug-in for the sync of my bookmarks. Now I use The Brain for keeping and browsing of links but I also would like to keep it synchronized as well.
So what do I use? No Idea for now… but I am trying a few things for the first one I tried is Mozilla Weave (Available Here). The following things so far I have found wrong with it.
- It does not display bookmarks without the plug-in (Like via Web Page)
- It does not work with anything older then 3.0 (So you have to export/import plug-ins)
- It is a manual sync, meaning you have to select to sync vs Google Sync which would do it automatically.
For now I am leaving it in place until something else comes around, and then will uninstall it.

Hello
Foxmarks Synchroniser works pretty well. The only problem is that the actual beta version (that works with Firefox 3.0b, which is included in Ubuntu…) requires to be accepted by the dev team.
It allows bookmarks browsing without the plugin (my.foxmarks.com), works with earlier versions than 3.0b, don’t need manual synchronisation and works very well amoung several computers.
If you can be accepted in the beta program, I recommand that plugin to you
Try it on beta.foxmarks.com
Cheers

Foxmarks is on my trial list, unfortunately while I submitted the request for Beta access a few days ago I have not had a response on it yet.
I do not like writing a review on it until I actually get to try it.
